Aldosterone is a steroid hormone synthesized in the adrenal cortex. It plays a key role in regulating water‑salt balance and blood pressure through its involvement in the renin‑angiotensin‑aldosterone system (RAAS). Aldosterone is used as a clinical marker in the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA), as well as for assessing RAAS activity in renal disease, heart failure, and other conditions associated with water‑electrolyte imbalance.
